The MEJCC has selected five domains (areas) to work in. These domains will cover a diverse and broad scope of engagement to effectively address all areas impacting elder abuse victims.

ADVOCACY and LEGISLATION
The MEJCC serves as a state level voice for speaking on behalf of elder abuse victims and network partners through the promotion of advocacy activities and legislative initiatives. A key component includes effectively combining network partners’ knowledge and resources to impact policy, be it legislative or regulatory, in order to assist elder abuse victims.
Core Functions
Develop strategies to inform policy makers, government officials, legislators on issues impacting elder abuse victims.
Provide direct and indirect testimony before public hearings.
Promote and seek resources to fund diverse services for elder abuse victims.
Assist network partners in identifying and supporting advocacy activities.
COMMUNICATION and COORDINATION
It is recognized that there are many state and community based elder abuse prevention efforts underway throughout the State. Communications and Coordination will focus on creating tools and platforms for increased communications between partners.
Core Functions:
Create a virtual platform to inform professionals and the public to increase accessibility.
Create and maintain a list of all community and protocol partners.
Create or support an elder abuse partner network.
Assist community partners with the development of policies and protocols.
Assist in the facilitation of elder abuse prevention efforts throughout the state.
EDUCATION, TRAINING and OUTREACH
There is a need for elder abuse prevention training and support to a wide spectrum of professionals, network partners, and the public. The MEJCC combines training, public and professional education, and widespread outreach efforts to offer the greatest impact possible.
Core Functions
Create and host a statewide coordinating calendar to share public and professional information about elder abuse prevention efforts, trainings, conferences, and other related prevention activities.
Develop and implement a plan to enhance network communications utilizing diverse tools such as social media, blogs, and print.
Create and host a community forum platform for network partners to share best practices, seek information, and support for prevention activities with other partners.
Identify opportunities to engage with non-traditional communities, such as educational, research, social or service clubs, and business partners in elder abuse prevention efforts.
RESEARCH
Information and data from the field of elder mistreatment is still limited. The MEJCC serves to bridge the gap between direct services and academic research. Field based experience serves to inform academics and their research to contribute to a holistic approach to processes.
Core Functions
Provide the coordination, capacity, and resources to gather comprehensive data that determines the scope and impact of elder abuse in Michigan.
Engage academic institutions in collaborative efforts and research studies.
Gather information about best practices at state and national levels.
Engage network partners with creating a platform for defining elder abuse.
RESOURCES
Many network partners and the public do not have ready access to experts or resources to support their elder abuse prevention efforts. The MEJCC is a central location of information compiled to meet partner informational and resource needs.
Core Functions
Maintain a central repository of state and national resources of experts, conference speakers, or area content experts.
Maintain resource information such as model protocols, policies, and procedures.
Provide assistance to professionals in performance of their duties.
Provide elder abuse data and information to the public.
